Do you ever miss being in first grade?

First grade I remember being in trouble a lot, but I was too young to understand why I was always in trouble, and though I still had a lot of pressure put on me, it was easier to be oblivious and let things roll off my back.

As a younger teenager, did you have any older guys/girls hit on you?

no, even people my own age didn't hit on me.

Do you think abortion should be legalized in the United States?

yes, and everywhere else. come on now.

What is one country you want to visit someday?

Japan

How much time do you usually spend online in one sitting?

a few hours. not always on line, these days I mostly spend hours in photoshop wasting time with tiny brushes because I don't know how any of the fancy time saving stuff works.

When you're at the movies, do you get popcorn and a drink?
never.

Would you ever want to be changed into a vampire?
possibly, well, yes actually. I would have to have a vampire-companion though, immortality would get really lonely I think, and it would probably be kind of nice to have someone like me to talk to.

Does the thought of living forever scare you in any way?

it would depend on the circumstances. I just wouldn't want to be the only one... unless I had bad ass powers and could go manipulate matter somewhere or something, pull a doc. manhattan. I could even have a weird blue penis and perma-eye liner

How many annoying people do you shun off daily?

I don't keep annoying people around I guess. maybe no one is annoying all the time. there's a boy in my Mandarin class, but that's not every day, and it's not so much shunning him off as not encouraging his behavior. My grandparents and my mother of course, also grate on my nerves, but I hesitate to call them annoying, they're just too close and too involved and I need out soon.

Have you ever done something too embarrassing to mention?

hmmm. not that I can think of really.

If you have a MySpace, what do you usually post bulletins about?

no.

Has anyone ever told you that you had months to live?

no. I've never had nothing but months to live.

How many times a day do you usually eat a full meal?

none. honestly.

How many times daily do you talk to your significant other/crush?

1-2... sometimes three.

As a teenager, were you trusted to be alone with your significant other?

hah! I don't know, I lived in the basement and snuck him in there and just didn't say anything. trust never entered into it.

Do both your parents have jobs?

yes, but not for much longer.

Do you live anywhere nearby a "hicktown"?

used to live IN a hicktown

Have you ever had a friends with "benefits" relationship with someone?

yes. shit was so cash. but he became a wuss and decided that it didn't work for him and it was all or nothing. so I agreed to be his girlfriend because I wanted to keep the sex, just kind of grew from there.

At family gatherings, are you more likely to hang out with the younger or older relatives?

I'm more likely to bring a book and avoid people.

Have you ever had the power go out while you were in the bathroom at nighttime?

actually, no. I've had light bulbs die though.

What TV commercial are you sick of seeing?

don't watch TV, but my grandparents always have the fucking thing running, and there's this 'from head to toe danino' one that I hate, and this really perverse sounding woman describing her childhood experiences at the werther's caramel shoppe. she seriously sounds like she's thinking more about fucking that weird candy guy with the mustache. fuck. I run downstairs as fast as I can to avoid hearing that one.

When was the last time someone complimented your hair?
can't remember

What makes your favorite television show unique?
a talking whale and a blue thing. I don't know what he is, but his hands are made of wood and he always reeks of maple syrup. maybe he's a maple tree.

Do laugh tracks on TV shows annoy you?
no. sometimes they're funny, most times I actually can't tell that it's a laugh track, it doesn't even register.

Do you think dreadlocks are awesome or gross?
they can't possibly be gross. you have to keep the fucking things super clean or they won't lock right. that being said, they're more trouble than they're worth, especially if you happen to be asian. but they're really nice looking if they're a good color. call me terrible, but I hate them on natural blondes.

Do you know anyone named Jesus?

a mexican boy.

What is your favorite thing about concerts?

they sound like a lot of fun

What color was the last piece of gum you ate?

white and speckles blue on one side, plain white on the other, came from a tin in a stamped pill format.

Where do you get blisters the most?

I don't get blisters really. last one I remember having was on my hand when I accidentally smashed my fingers between two rocks.

Do you always use conditioner when you wash your hair?

yes. I have to. if there is none available, I suppose I'm out of luck,

Have you ever been to a high school football game? If so, was it in warm or cold weather?

no football in the north west.

I hate footers and the nerd in me screams to remove these but I'm not gonna!
mad love for these skinners

ahh splendid, actually! Going to school taking Mandarin and it's my only course and it's totally fucking gut loaded so I'm like the only person in the class who isn't stressed about it and I'm doing really well. shit is reasonably cash. the past few days, I can't stop listening to this [link]

and I know it's totally pre-fabricated electronic junk that requires little to no talent or creativity to come up with or whatever, but heavily manipulated electronic music is like friggin' catnip for me. I think whoever made it made it in vocaloid, that game with.. I dunno, little electric characters that are supposed to sing like real people? I actually have no idea, but maybe I should have a lookie at it or something.

also I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO TELL ANYONE LOL but it's the internet so who cares? My grandparents (with whom I live in Burnaby) are MOVING to vancouver island, which means I will either have to get an apartment, or... well I'll pretty much have to get an apartment and because I'll be going to school full time SOMEONE ELSE WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.

FUCK.
YEAH.
so anyway, how've you beeen?

golly! Mandarin!! i want to learn so badly. gosh i really do, tell me how it goes. Is it easy to learn? i've heard it is very super hard for native english speakers. but i wouldn't know, i haven't tried! ive thought about getting the rosetta stone mandarin.. but that is very. expensive!

and that song is so wonderful to my ears!! and there is a LOT of talent that goes into it, trust me! as a music maker myself, i can say. it is very hard to come up with the first riff! let alone an amazing song as such. its so good~ thank you for sharing that with me and my ears!

and oh gosh, that is a scary thought, but you should try and find a roomate! im sure there are some very nice people where you are, and they would love to share a humble apartment with you! i know i would. :D
but goodluck with everything.

and hmm, i've been very productive, my art is changing rapidly, and im liking it more and more and less. but hey watcanyado. and i really got into photography for the while i was gone, and so i'm gonna hopefully be selling some of that and my art at an event here soon! wish me luck ;D.

and and, then nothing much has happened, i guess. just job searching (the lethargic way.) u.u;

hmm!! how was your day!

Mandarin is actually pretty easy. the only reason English speakers find it so difficult is the use of tones; English speakers are not used to restricting the tones we can use, or even acknowledging them as part of speech. We're more used to looking at emphasis and literal-ness providing the meaning, like the difference between
sure we'll go ( emphasis on 'sure' implying great agreement and enthusiasm. )
sure we'll go ( emphasis on 'we' implies a question of 'but will anyone else?' )
sure we'll go ( emphasis on 'go' implying that other things may be expected of us, but all we mean to do is show up )
this of course isn't the same thing AT ALL, but it's the closest English comes to affording meaning to a word based on vocalization. other than that, context should tell you what is meant. like the famous example of ma(mother) and ma(horse), if you're talking about going out to the stable to feed your ma, most people will deduce that your mother doesn't live in the stable or allow you to ride her for several hours a day (depending) also, unless you fuck up ALL the tones in your sentence, most people will know what you're talking about, and if you watch movies in mandarin you will see that the tones are sometimes barely distinguishable, it's really not that strict.

so all we have to do is learn what the tones sound like, and then learn which words they go with to mean what. Once you're familiar with the idea of tones, the rest is easy. Mandarin often displays a very very similar sentence structure to English in that they both tend to go "subject-verb-object"

I eat rice
wo chi mi-fan

In comparison, Japanese pronunciation is much easier for English speakers but the grammar is way, way tougher, as it incorporates a lot more particles and measure words as well as some odd tenses. Well, the tenses aren't especially odd, but they can be difficult for english speakers, as we don't usually learn how to conjugate verbs in our own language, we just kind of pick them up intuitively. There are also irregular verbs in Japanese. In Mandarin, you use a particle to indicate past tense, and there are only two tenses, present and past, everything else is contextual.

the other issue is the writing system or hanzi 汉字.
each character has a sound, though sometimes more than one, attached to it, and a particular order in which each stroke is written. But there are very handy general rules and all characters are made of a series of the same basic strokes.. I think there are about 15ish in total, I'm too lazy to check. once you know a good number of solitary characters, you can put them together to form more complicated ideas. like the character zhong (jong) 中 means middle, and the character wen (more like wun) 文 means language or grammar, so together 中文 means Chinese. you only need something like 3000 characters to be more or less literate and be able to read newspapers and stuff, there are something like 6-8000 in common use, and if you know those you can read stuff like Mao's little red book and more classical literature. we learn about 30 characters a week in my class, which some kids are really bogged down by because they're taking other classes. I have no trouble with it, because Mandarin is my only class and I have allll the time in the world to study haha! in comparison, the japanese students only learn like.. 60 throughout the whole course, but again, the grammar they do will be much more difficult.

and that song is a cover of a song from a video game. I guess it still takes work and intelligence to compose it and make it sound like the original enough to be recognizable but different enough not to be a straight up ripoff, personally I have a lot of reverence for electronic composers, I'm just used to my dad the music snob and all his dickbag opinions on music.

anyway enough of that.

Rosetta Stone is a brilliant program, I have used it, there is not a word of English in it and it teaches you the same way you learn your first language, by showing you pictures and saying words and getting you to repeat them. at first, you won't know what some words are supposed to mean, but you see them in different contexts and then you start to know what they mean. it's really good, but THE price is very high, some people might choose to download or PIRATE it, because it's free but they may then need to keep the authorities at BAY somehow.

NOT RAMBLING ANYMOAR NOW. MY DAY WAS FINE THANX <3
